The Most Famous Japanese Specialty: Meet the Popular Types of Sushi
The most famous Japanese delicacy is becoming more and more popular in the world because of its perfect flavor and low number of calories! In order to prepare you for a real gastronomic adventure in Adriatic Sushi & Oyster Bar, we present you the most famous types of sushi.
Maki Sushi
One of the most popular types comes in the form of cylindrical rolls wrapped in nori seaweed and is made on a bamboo rolling mat. It can contain cooked or raw seafood and vegetables and is sprinkled with fish roe and sesame seeds. For vegetarians or those who do not dare to try raw fish, there are versions with cucumber or avocado. You can try different sauces with maki rolls, and its most popular versions are hosomaki and futomaki sushi.
Nigiri Sushi
Nigiri is considered to be the highest-quality type of sushi due to the large quantity of ingredients used in its preparation. It is made from oval-shaped rice on which thinly sliced raw fish is placed. Sushi masters often put wasabi sauce between the rice and raw fish and sprinkle minced onion and ginger on top. This form of sushi does not contain algae and, when translated, means “hand-pressed sushi”.
Sashimi Sushi
Sashimi sushi is prepared with fresh fish (usually tuna or salmon), various types of mollusks, and nori seaweed. The fish used must be fresh and prepared less than 24 hours after the catch. For a perfect visual presentation, it is placed on daikon or Japanese radish leaves, and no rice is served with it. Sashimi sushi is eaten with soy sauce, lemon, lime, and wasabi.
